The Ministry of Transport said that the Ethiopian airlines has provided transport service to over 7.2 million international travelers and 6.4 million local customers.
Briefing journalists on Ministry annual performance recently, Minister Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu said the airline has launched direct flights to Manila, Philippines; Yaounde,Cameroon, and Durban, South Africa as well as Hawassa in its local destinations.
The Minister said that the Airline has increased its flight destination and build credibility by ensuring traveler’s safety. The national carrier is expanding its catering facility and cargo terminal by undertaking expansion projects, the Minister added.
The traveler’s on-time performance of the Airlines has reached 84 per cent and there is no any recorded accident , he said. The Airline has started inspection of its security through the Universal Safety Oversight Audit Programme (USOAP) continuous monitoring approach, Dr. Workneh said.
According to him, the Airline has offered cargo service to 52.8, 1.7, 10.1 and 7.8 million tonnes of flowers, fruits and vegetables as well as meat and other types of goods respectively.
The Minister said that the Airline has achieved 88 per cent of its plan offering about 6.9 million tonnes cargo service throughout the year.
